CLICKnROLL

For the course User-Centred Design, Bjorn and I were assigned to work in the St Jozef elderly care facility in Kortrijk. We got a design challenge: Redesign a wheelchair extension table, that works is easier to use and is less stigmatising.

We created CLICKnROLL for D4E1 and Makerhealth.

It is an easily installed table extension for a wheelchair.

After observations at the elderly care facility, we quickly realised the problem was connecting these to the different type of wheelchairs in an efficient way. With quick and dirty prototyping techniques we created a hack that can be done to existing tables by the caretaking staff themselves.

By using garden hose connectors as an inspiration we developed a quick-release system that can easily be placed. The project ended for us at a well functioning prototype made with 3D prints, laser cut parts and the garden hose connectors. Within MAKERHEALTH, this concept will be developed further.

A big thanks to Isabelle, Rosette and Eddy from WZC Sint Jozef at Kortrijk
